Memento

Why

Journaling often feels like writing into a void. Entries pile up, and it's hard to see patterns or recall past thoughts. By integrating dual LLMs (Cerebras LLaMA 3.1 70B for text and Claude 3 for images), Memento transforms journaling from a static record into an active thought partner that gently guides you toward deeper self-reflection.

Traditional journals are passive repositories of thoughts. It's challenging to remember old insights or see how current thoughts connect to previous ones. Memento helps you build upon past reflections naturally, reducing the cognitive load of recall while encouraging deeper exploration of your ideas over time.

How I Built It

Inspired by Amelia Wattenberger's perspective on LLMs as tools for thought, I designed Memento with a subtle, non-intrusive interface that respects the natural rhythm of reflection. Rather than a rigid two-panel layout, the AI suggestions appear contextually as you write, similar to having a thoughtful conversation partner who knows when to listen and when to offer gentle prompts.

The system processes both text and images as context, with Cerebras LLaMA 3.1 70B handling writing assistance and Claude 3 providing image analysis. This creates a multi-modal journaling experience that feels natural and unobtrusive. The AI doesn't dictate the direction of your thoughts but rather acts as an extension of your mind, helping you explore ideas more deeply.
